How to write 2,500,000 in words
The number 2,500,000 is written “two million five hundred thousand” in British English.
The simplest method is to read the figure in groups of three digits from the left and name each group:
- 2,000,000 is 2 in the millions place, so we write “two million”.
- 500,000 is 500 in the thousands place, so we write “five hundred thousand”.
- Join the groups in order, without “and” between them: “two million five hundred thousand”.
In running text the number is normally lowercase: “the fee is two million five hundred thousand pounds”. At the start of a sentence, in a heading, or on a legal document it takes capitals: Two Million Five Hundred Thousand. Formal documents often give both forms together, for example “two million five hundred thousand (2,500,000)”, so that a reader can check one against the other.

Two Million Five Hundred Thousand in figures

In expanded form: 2,000,000 + 500,000 = 2,500,000.
